The Government of India has launched the Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY), which aims to provide institutional delivery to pregnant women and reduce maternal-infant mortality.
Under JSY, eligible pregnant women are given cash assistance for delivery in a government or certified private health facility, irrespective of the mother’s age and number of children.
The main objective of providing cash assistance to the mother is to meet the delivery cost; it should be distributed effectively within the institution.
