Selection Process for UPSC IAS and IFS Post Bharti 2024

The selection process for UPSC IAS and IFS typically involves multiple stages. Here’s an overview:

  1. Preliminary Examination (Prelims):
    • This stage consists of two objective-type papers: General Studies Paper-I and General Studies Paper-II (also known as CSAT).
    • Both papers are qualifying in nature.
    • Marks obtained in the Preliminary Examination are not counted for determining a candidate’s final merit.
  2. Main Examination (Mains):
    • Candidates who qualify the Preliminary Examination are eligible to appear for the Main Examination.
    • The Main Examination consists of a written examination and an interview.
    • The written examination comprises nine papers, including an essay paper, four general studies papers, and two optional subject papers.
    • The interview, known as the Personality Test, is conducted for candidates who qualify the written examination. It assesses the candidate’s suitability for a career in civil services by evaluating their personality, communication skills, leadership qualities, etc.
  3. Final Selection:
    • The final merit list is prepared based on the candidate’s performance in the Main Examination and the Personality Test.
    • Marks obtained in the Main Examination (written) and the Personality Test are aggregated to determine the final ranking of candidates.
    • The top-ranked candidates are then allocated services based on their preferences and availability of vacancies.

It’s important to note that the selection process may vary slightly from year to year, but these are the general stages involved in the UPSC Civil Services Examination, which includes both IAS and IFS.
